S2E2: Building a Diverse Agribusiness

Show notes

Dropping out of school early or entering the job market right after high school without gaining any formal skills first isn’t unusual at all: More than one million young Kenyans follow this road every year. The question is, how can this group still acquire skills that enable them to become more employable or to generate income for themselves?

Our studio guest Kelvin went straight from high school to work. But after some months of casual jobs in farms he realized he wanted more. He joined an agricultural youth organisation, attended a course on passion-fruit farming and is now on a good way to build a successful agribusiness. “My goal is to employ at least 50 to 60 youth from my area,” says Kelvin.

Listen in and learn how Kelvin improved his self-employment prospects, got boosted in a start-up incubator program and meanwhile never forgot his roots.
